Manufacturer Spotlight: Mathews Archery

Mathews Archery began with two very committed folks in 1992, Matt McPherson and Joel Maxfield introduced the Mathews Standard. They didn’t kick up their feet and watch the company grow on its own. They, along with many other key folks, worked relentlessly — and still do — to cultivate the team, reputation and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility it has today.

Innovation and integrity continually drive operations at Mathews Archery. Mathews has pioneered — and continues to pioneer — many of the archery industry’s leading bow technologies. More importantly, it stands behind them with incredible customer service. In fact, folks who call Mathews will reach a receptionist, not an automated menu.

“We hold our company to very high standards,” Caleb Parry of Mathews said. “That goes for our brand, sales, products, marketing, customer service and every other facet of the business. We work very hard to position Mathews as an ultra-premium brand.”

Products are channeled to consumers through Mathews’ dealer partners. “We look for dealers who have full-time store hours and greet their customers warmly as they enter,” Derrick Schillinger, also of Mathews, said. “We also want to partner with dealers who provide consistent service and keep their stores neat, clean and well-stocked with merchandise. A pro shop provides that exclusive, above-and-beyond experience, which is the leading reason Mathews products are sold to consumers exclusively at authorized Mathews dealerships.”

The engineering team, McPherson still at the helm, works tirelessly to design technologies that meet consumer needs. Mathews’ 2019 lineup is its strongest yet. The Vertix is the flagship and features innovative Switchweight modules, which change draw weight in 5-pound increments without adjusting the limb bolts. The result is tremendous efficiency. To boot, the Vertix has 20 percent less vibration than the ultra-popular Triax.

Speed fans will love the TX-5’s smooth-shooting characteristics, while shooters seeking stability and forgiveness will gravitate toward the Traverse. Finally, budget-minded shooters will find the Tactic’s high-end technologies at a reasonable $849 MSRP.
