ATA Announces New Executive Committee

This past April, the ATA Board of Directors voted to delay the Executive Committee election by 90 days in an effort to allow the ATA and Directors to focus on providing the best possible member support during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the delay set to expire in August 2020, the Board of Directors just voted a new Executive Committee into office. During the recent election, the Board installed a new chair and two new vice chairs to the committee.

Mark Copeland, store director of Jay's Sporting Goods, was named as the new Executive Committee Chair. James McGovern, owner of Rinehart Targets and Jeff Adee, president of Headhunter Bow Strings Inc., were voted into the vice chair positions. Those elected to the Executive Committee serve a two-year term.

Departing the Executive Committee are Ben Summers of T.R.U. Ball/AXCEL Archery and Randy Walk of Hoyt Archery.

Levi Morgan Continues Winning

Team Mathews took first place in all four divisions at the recent ASA shoot in Cullman, Alabama, and Mathew’s shooter Levi Morgan continued his dominate streak this season claiming first place in Men’s Open Pro. He also became IBO National Champion as an individual in the Pro Male Release class, and won the team event with teammates Danny Evans, Chris Hacker and Dan McCarthy. McCarthy also had a strong finish at the ASA, coming in second just behind Morgan.

“Man, this feeling never gets old,” stated Morgan. “The competition isn’t getting any easier which is why every win still feels like the first one.”

Sixth Annual Cajun 8 Limited Bowfishing Tournament Another Sellout

Cajun Bowfishing hosted another sellout at its sixth annual Cajun 8 Limited Bowfishing Tournament Aug. 1-2, 2020, at Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Evansville, Indiana.

Team Whack’em & Stack’em won the Cajun 8 Limited with a total of 279.6 pounds of fish. Team Captain Rene Kalkbrenner and teammates were awarded $10,000 for first place and an additional $500 as a Cajun bonus. This bonus was given to the top three finishers’ team members who shot Cajun equipment during the tournament.

The other seven teams in the top eight included Team Mad Chaos Bowfishing, Nock Deep, Hauling A**, Drinkin Bros II, Team Night Stalker, Rock Bottom and Carp Control.

Additional prizes were awarded to teams with the heaviest fish in five categories. Boone Boys won the Heaviest Common (21.2 pounds); Gunpowder Bowfishing won the Heaviest Gar (17.4 pounds); Nocked Up won Heaviest Buffalo (29.8 pounds); Team Steeldrivers won the Heaviest Grassy (42.8 pounds); and the Big Head and Big Fish Award (72.6 pounds) was given to Carp Control.

Scholastic 3-D Archery Hosts 8th Annual 3-D National Championship

Scholastic 3-D Archery held the 8th annual S3DA 3-D National Championship at the Laurel County Fairgrounds in London, Kentucky, on July 23-26, 2020.

With the prolonged shutdown of most states, archers weren’t left with many opportunities to hone their 3-D skills this year as most S3DA Regional and State Tournaments had been cancelled, but the archers took that in stride and pounded arrow after arrow in the 12-Ring for some amazing scores over the long weekend of competition.

The archers and their families took part in not only the tournament, but also several bonus events that were held such as the North American Big Game Bowhunting Challenge, Kirsch Target Challenge, and the Delta McKenzie Long Shot Challenge.

Georgia S3DA Conservation Outreach Coordinator, Trip Penn and his wife, Kim, set up a conservation booth that allowed S3DA student members the chance to participate in a short quiz and scavenger hunt on-site to win conservation related prizes. Glen Mayhew with TSSA (Tree Stand Safety Awareness Foundation) was also on-site to provide archers with tips and information to keep them safe while hunting this fall. He was able to speak to many archers and their families while also giving away some amazing merchandise from TSSA sponsors.
