For the past several years, the ASA Shooter of the Year title in the Men’s Open Pro Division has been a hard fought battle between two well-known Team Mathews shooters, Levi Morgan and Dan McCarthy. Morgan has won the title the previous 12 years — an amazing accomplishment — especially considering that Morgan sometimes edged out McCarthy by only a few points. This season, however, McCarthy finally surpassed Morgan and won ASA Shooter of the Year.
McCarthy claimed the Shooter of the Year title, the second of his career, during the recent ASA Classic in Metropolis, Illinois. In addition to his success, McCarthy’s teammates also shot well in Metropolis, with Team Mathews shooters claiming Shooter of the Year titles in two additional divisions, as well as sweeping the podium in Men’s Open Pro and Women’s Open Pro.
Dan McCarthy (Men’s Open Pro), Cara Kelly (Women’s Open Pro) and Robert Householder (Men’s Known Pro) each finished the six-tournament season with the most points in their categories, clinching the most coveted award in 3-D archery, 2019 ASA Shooter of the Year. In addition to the three Shooter of the Year awards, Team Mathews also claimed 9 of 12 podiums at the ASA Classic across the four Pro Divisions.
